Full Face of Burt’s Bees Makeup: Swatches and Review

*This post contains product samples and affiliate links*

I was recently sent a bunch of products from the Burt’s Bees cosmetics line to test and review in exchange for my honest opinion. Burt’s Bees boasts products that are 100% natural, cruelty-free, dermatologist tested, and free of ingredients like pthalates, parabens, SLS, petrolatum, and synthetic fragrances. Until now, I had only tried their lip products (their beeswax-based lip balms have been a favourite of mine for over a decade), so I was very excited to try their cosmetics line.

I was sent 8 Burt’s Bees makeup products, enough for a full-face application! I will start by reviewing each product, then will show swatches of the colour products, and end with a full-face look I created using all of these products.

Burt’s Bees Makeup Review

Burt’s Bees Blush in 1205 Bare Peach

This was my absolute favourite product of the bunch. It had excellent pigmentation, blended out nicely, and had great lasting power. It’s easily buildable, and I am really happy with the peach shade I was sent. It comes in two other shades: Sky Pink and Toasted Cinnamon. I will definitely be picking these up.

Burt’s Bees Glossy Lipstick in 505 Peony Dew

I am also loving this lipstick. It has a sheer, glossy finish, so it is easy to apply and is great for everyday wear. Peony Dew is a rosey-nude with a pretty, pearly sheen. Since it is from the lip balm experts at Burt’s Bees, it feels great on your lips and is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. The glossy lipstick is available in 5 shades and they also make a satin lipstick in 18 shades.

Burt’s Bees Nourishing Mascara in 1305 Classic Black

I am a mascara junkie and am usually pretty picky about my mascara. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to like this at all, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. It has a flexible silicone comb wand that I found was great for separating the lashes and for building volume. I wore it for a week straight to really give it a good test! The more I wore it, the more I was really able to build it up for some volume (with 2-3 coats), but you can still create a more natural look by applying only one coat. It didn’t flake or smudge on me, it did not irritate my eyes at all, and it came off quite easily with micellar water.

Burt’s Bees Nourishing Eyeliner in 1405 Soft Black

Personally, I love my eyeliner to be as black as possible. This one in soft black just looked like it was lacking pigment to me, because I wanted it to be darker. I found that the pencil was very hard, so it was difficult to apply because it tugged and dragged on my eyelid without much colour payoff. I also found that when applied over eyeshadow, the shimmer of the eyeshadow seemed to seep through the liner. There are better liners out there.

Burt’s Bees Brow Pencil in 1610 Brunette

This eyebrow pencil only comes in 2 shades: Blonde and Brunette. I received the shade Brunette, and it did not work for me. I have very dark, almost black eyebrows. The shade brunette was too light for me and also pulled very warm. What I did like about it is that the product is waxy, so in addition to depositing colour and filling in the brows, it holds them in place as well. What I didn’t like about it, besides the shade, was that the product was very soft, so it was difficult to draw precisely.

Burt’s Bees Eyeshadow Trio in 1505 Shimmering Nudes

This eyeshadow trio contains a set of neutral-brown shimmery shadows, including a highlight shade, a mid-tone lid shade, and a deeper shade to create dimension. I found that it took some work to build these up using a flat eyeshadow brush. Honestly, I think this colour palette is kind of dated, but it did look nice on my eyes. The Burt’s philosophy is to be very natural, so I would say that it’s on brand for them. I think I would have preferred if there was a larger contrast between the medium and deep shadow shades. It also comes in 3 other colour tones: Dusky Woods, Countryside Lavender, and Blooming Desert.

Burt’s Bees Goodness Glows Liquid Foundation in 1015 Buff

This was my least favourite product of the bunch. I found it hard to choose a colour since they have names like Buff, Soft Honey, and Chestnut. Its hard to know which one to pick because there’s no reference to the shade’s depth or undertone. Buff was a bit to light for my summer skin, but I think would match fairly well in the winter. It comes in 13 shades, but does not include the most comprehensive range of choices. I found the formula sat on the skin and didn’t ever quite blend in the way that I wanted it to. It seemed to gather in lines and around my nose.

Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation in 1110 Vanilla

I have the same gripes about shade selection with this product, however powders tend to be more forgiving on finding a match and undertone. I use it on my nose and forehead as those are my only oily spots. It works well and I have no complaints about this product! I have been using it on top of my Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte on days that I want some extra coverage.

  1. I’ve never really look at Burts Bees makeup except for the lipsticks which I love. I really like the sound of the mascara, might need to go take a look at it and explore the rest of the range. Lovely blog post x

  2. Burts and Bees is such a nice brand and usually pretty decent for sensitive skin. I really like the sound of the mascara, I’m very picky with mascara as well and I appreciate ones that easily separate lashes. I also like the color of the bare peach! Great review hun ❤
