I’m throwing it back to an oldie but a goodie. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is a liquid lipstick formula with a whipped texture and velvety feel. As the name suggests, this formula has a matte finish, but it in not a super-drying chalkboard matte way, like many of the liquid matte lipsticks that debuted around the same time. These are not transfer-proof, meaning the product may smudge and budge after application, however the formula is very long wearing and has a tendency to stay in place. They are also pleasantly scented like warm vanilla.
In this post I’m sharing swatches of the 4 shades in my collection – Cannes, Rome, Berlin*, and Morocco. January can be a bit overwhelming after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, so I was inspired to dig into my makeup stash to share an old favourite formula. It’s a reminder to use what I have and not always lust after the latest launches!
What’s great about these is that they are very affordable (~$9 CAD each) and widely available at drugstores and online. So if you did want to treat yourself to something new, it won’t break the bank. They have released these lippies in a metallic finish as well.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes
Cannes is a muted pinky-nude shade. It is a perfect “My Lips but Better” shade for my colouring. Very wearable and pretty, it’s great for everyday. It is creamy and applies evenly.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome
Rome is very similar to Cannes, although is has more mauve undertones and is slightly deeper. What would typically be described as a rosewood shade. Until writing this, I didn’t realize how similar these shade were! I find that the bottle is misleading in that it looks darker than the actual shade applies. Rome has the most even application of the 4.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Berlin
Berlin is a warm toned chocolate brown. It is not too deep to the point where it looks vampy, so it is very wearable. Very 90’s grunge! I find that this one had the streakiest application of the 4. It took some finessing to get nice, even coverage. I will disclose that this was the only shade I did not purchase, I got it complementary for testing and review purposes, however I did choose the shade I received.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Morocco
Morocco is the fun one of the bunch! It is a bright, fiery orange with red undertones. It really packs a punch! Its not the type of shade that I gravitate toward for everyday but do really enjoy it in the summer months when I have a little more of a tan!
Have you tried the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams before? Whats your favourite shade?
*The shade Berlin was received complimentary for testing purposes, all other shades were purchased with my own money.
