Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser Review

I have been using Drunk Elephant’s newest launch, the Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser, at least once a day for over a month now. I can safely say that I absolutely LOVE it!

Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm Review
Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser

I will admit that I had never tried a cleansing balm before this one, so I can’t compare its performance to others on the market. But for someone new to cleansing balms and a double cleansing routine, I have really enjoyed its addition to my routine. I would describe this balm almost as a primer to your normal cleansing routine.

I have DRY skin. No matter what cleanser I use (or even just water), my skin will feel tight if I don’t complete the rest of my routine within 10 minutes. I find that this balm helps to buffer that dryness by adding a hydrating layer to my skin before cleansing to protect it from feeling stripped. My skin feels super soft and supple after using this, and that feeling is maintained even after using a traditional cleanser. There is no oiliness or residue left behind, just clean soft skin!

Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser and Bamboo Booster review
Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser. Look at that texture!

I have tried this a number of ways and have enjoyed it each way. As a make-up removing 1st cleanse, as a single cleanse in the morning, and as an exfoliating treatment with the added bamboo booster. It really does remove every trace of makeup! In the evening, I love using a gel cleanser, like Drunk Elephant’s Beste no. 9 or Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser, combined with my Foreo Luna cleansing device to complete the ritual. It is so gentle and leaves your skin feeling so supple!

The Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser comes with 110 g of product which should give you ~100 uses out of one container. It also comes with 3 g of the Bamboo Booster for some added exfoliation. Slaai retails for $48.50 CAD and is available on the Drunk Elephant website, as well as at Sephora, Ulta, and Space NK .

  1. I have such oily skin so I have to double cleanse on days when I wear makeup. I’ve tried a few cleansing balms, creams, waters, so I’m curious how this would compare! I just finished up my Farmacy Green Clean, but I’ve heard that the DE balm is actually cheaper per once of product!

    1. It is cheaper!! GC is $44 for 90g of product and Slaai is $42 for 110g of product (in Canadian $). I’ve been testing GC so I can do a comparison review. I find GC washes off cleaner (leaves less hydration) but I do find it bothers my eyes, compared to Slaai which is super gentle on the eyes!

  2. You have pretty much described my skin and how it is with most cleansers (if not all), and now I’m definitely going to try this stuff out. Been wanting to for a while now.

  3. I just finished my second tub of this cleanser! I really enjoyed it but I found both tubs had some product at the very top and bottom that just wouldn’t melt! Have you tried the Biossance Squalane + Antioxidant Cleansing Oil? It is my absolute favorite and the best cleansing oil/balm I have tried.

    1. No I haven’t tried that one yet but I have had my eye on Biossance for a while!!! I will definitely add it to my wish list! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂 I know exactly what you mean about the top layer! Mine still melted, i just had to crush it between my fingers first before applying. Finished my first tub about 2 weeks ago!

  4. Even though I’m not huge on cleansing balms and skin has also settled now in terms of being too oily or too dry but I’m heading over to your Insta right now, the feed looks fab!
